Terms of service

The deal, in the fewest words that still mean something.

Last updated 7 September 2026. By using Document X-Ray you agree to what follows. If you do not, do not use it.

Who you are agreeing with

Document X-Ray is a service operated by Clarion Technologies LLC. These terms are an agreement between you and Clarion Technologies LLC, and every reference below to "we" or "us" means Clarion Technologies LLC.

What the service does

Document X-Ray examines a document and reports text that is present for a machine and invisible to a reader. It is a heuristic tool. It looks for known concealment techniques and for language addressed to an AI system, and it tells you what it found.

What it does not do

A clean verdict is not a guarantee that a document is safe. It means these particular checks found nothing. New concealment techniques appear, and a document can be harmful for reasons that have nothing to do with hidden text. Every report says this in its own footer, and it is the single most important sentence on this page.

You remain responsible for your own decisions about the documents you process. We do not review documents on your behalf and we make no representation about any person or organisation named in one.

What you may upload

Only documents you are entitled to submit. Do not upload material you have no right to disclose, and do not upload anything unlawful. If a document is confidential to the point that sending it to a third-party service would breach an obligation, use the self-hosted option instead of this website — that is exactly why it exists.

Do not attempt to disrupt the service, exceed its limits deliberately, or use it to attack anyone else.

Limits

  • Single uploads are capped at 20 MB.
  • Free scanning is capped at 25 documents per day per IP address.
  • Batch scanning is a paid feature and requires an access code.
  • Reports and sanitised copies are deleted 60 minutes after a scan. Download anything you want to keep.

Availability

There is no uptime commitment on the free tier, and none on paid tiers unless we have agreed one with you in writing. We may change or withdraw features. If we make a change that materially reduces what a paying customer receives, we will tell them and refund the unused part of that period.

Payment

Paid plans are billed monthly in advance and can be cancelled at any time, taking effect at the end of the current period. We do not handle your card details; payment is processed by our payment provider.

Liability

The service is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, Clarion Technologies LLC is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before it arose. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Your content

Your documents remain yours. We claim no rights over them, we do not use them to train anything, and we do not keep them — see the privacy page for exactly what is retained and for how long.

The software itself

Document X-Ray is free software under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3. These terms cover your use of the hosted service; they do not limit the rights the licence grants you over the software. You can download the source of the version running here and operate your own copy, and if your documents are confidential that is the option to take.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top changes when we do. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, and its courts have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute.
